  2. Hi I'm new to this. Do you have any preferred insurers for a nippi. I understand most insurance companies have not heard of a nippi so can be difficult getting a reasonable quote.
    Any advice appreciated.

    1. Hi Simon

Generally there are three companies that will insure a Nippi ... Bikesure, MCN and Aviva. all three can be found through their websites, just Google. However don't bother with their online forms as "Nippi" won't appear on the drop-down menus so you need to ring then and speak to a human advisor.

Like all scooters, it will help if chain and garage your Nippi etc. and some of our members have found that a mileage limit on the policy will help keep the cost down too.

If you would like a more detailed (or specific) answer, please email me, george@nippi-owners.co.uk

      Dank

  4. Hello to Anonymous from Germany!

Depending on the year of manufacture if your Nippi has a curved body, its either base on a Piaggio Typhoon or Piaggio Fly. almost all the parts that make up a Nippi (with the exception of the body) are standard Piaggio parts and are available from most dealerships and online.

If your Nippi is the older straight lined version than its probably based on Honda Melody. Honda Melody parts are harder to find, but are still available

I would need more information to help more. Please email: george@nippi-owners.co.uk

    I hope this helps?

    1. Hi Jim,

Yes is the short answer. The longer answer is that in some cases it is possible to get an exemption using a V112, and claiming the Trippi as an invalid carriage, however both the DVLA and VOSA have differing opinions, So if you can Just get it MOT'd.Trust me its easier.

    2. Hello, I am getting ready to ride my Trippi again after a car accident left me too scared to ride over twelve months ago. I had difficulty getting insured for the third year and only Swinton seem able to cover me, A list of insurance companies who actually recognise this trike would be fab and get some competition going to reduce premiums..Melanie

    3. Hello Melanie,

Insurance wise for Trippis? Bikesure or MCN have been found to be okay (but you might still have to explain things on the phone)

I recently found and got a quote for car insurance from Fish insurance, www.fishinsurance.co.uk, who are a specialist disabled insurer - though I haven't tried them for a Trippi or Nippi they might be worth a shot.

If you want more specific help please email me, george@nippi-owners.co.uk

I wish you well with getting back on the road (be brave its worth it) :-)

    1. Hi Pete,

I suspect (99% certain) that you Nippi is based on a Piaggio Fly. Any Scotter main dealer / servicer should be able to get the right parts just tell them its for a Fly on a 51 plate.

      Thanks

    Thanks

    1. A Trippi is actually a rebadged PGO T-rex Trike. the 50cc is from the T-rex scooter. Obviously the transmission and extra wheel are a bit different ... See this post for more:

  12. Hi,

Does anyone know where I'd be able to buy a chain for the reverse gear, everywhere I've been have never seen one so thin and im really struggling to find.

    Thanks

    1. Hi John,

Most reverse systems that we know about on Nippis work by using a wheel against the rear wheel, not chain driven. If you can provide more details we'll try and help, but it may be that you have a one off system as we do know that Nippi Vehicles have used a couple of different reversing systems over the years. Please email me: george@nippi-owners.co.uk if you can.

    1. Hi not certain if you mean a protective canopy as in a roof for the rider or some kind of all weather storage ... Assuming you mean a roof - Yes they are available but only direct from the manufacturer. They are not cheap but I recommend you contact the makers www.nippi.co.uk - to answer another question that you may ask. "no the appear very rarely on the 2nd hand market. I have only seen 3 for sale in the last 10 years. Sorry.

Does a trippi need an mot if I am not disabled.? Plse.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A TRIPPI is not MOT exempt whoever rides it. However a NIPPI is if ridden exclusively by a person with a recognised disability, using a V112 exemption form and declaring the trike as an "invalid carriage weight less than 305kg" (or something like that)

But that only applies to the Nippi as its primary design is for people with a disability.

  16. Hi, does anyone know how much road tax is for a nippi trippi please

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bothe the Nippi and the Tripp, 50cc, 80cc and 125 are considered as scooters (eg Moped type not mobility) and so its £17 per year. Also see the question above for a related issue regarding MOT's.

    Thanks

  18. Hi,
    I am considering buying a Nippi. I have a few questions: –
what is the customer service of the manufacturer like?
Why does Motability no longer support the purchase of these machines?
    Are they reliable?
    How are they on hills?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wont lie - The Nippi manufacturers aftersales is non-existant. Generally I do not not recommend buying new as their prices are very high, for what it is - it is just a scooter after all. Better to look at the 2nd hand market first. Motability stopped offering Nippis because of the lack of aftersales and so many buyers cancelling their HP agreements.

Nippis are reliable if looked after. However you should be aware that not all scooter garages will work on them as they are not standard (though the original donor scooter and parts are) and it very unlikely that the manufacturers will assist with regular maintenance.

They are okay on hills, like all scooters much of what they can cope with is determined by weight versus engine size, so if you intended to use a powerchair in a Nippi get a 125!

      Hope this helps.

  19. Does any one know or used car tyres on the rear of there nippi or trippi. I have a trippi 125 and think that145/70/12 car tyres would go on ok. Whats your thought

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I think it has been tried fairly successfully on a Nippi. As both the Nippi and Trippi are trikes I see no advantage in having rounded edge tyres as the don't lean to steer - and if anything it reduces the amount of tyre in contact with the road. Bigger trikes based on motorbikes use non rounded tyres on the back.

However I would not necessarily consider changing the front as that would put more lateral force through the front forks and struts then they were designed for ...

      Thanks

    2. thanks bud for reply do you know what size the new trippi rear tyres are as they now use a flat type tyre, they claim makes them more stable,i guess less twitchy, the ones i have found onling the cloest to bike size is 135/80/12 or 145/70/12 both have a rolling circumfrance of 61 inch compared to 60 for the bike tyre

  20. Hello, I'm new to this as this is about my brothers nippi 125. Can anyone shed a light on what has happened to my bros bike, he was driving it fine, got to a set of lights went to pull off and no drive. This scooter has a lever that changes it from drive to reverse, any ideas appreciated, many thanks mark

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mark,

If it is a Nippi (And not A Trippi, they are different bikes) I cannot imagine how the reverse should affect driving as it is only an electric motor pressed up against the rear wheel when you pull the lever - having turned the electric motor on. Without knowing more, I can only suggest that the engine's drive belt has let go.

  22. George, sorry it is a trippi, I have had clutch ect apart today and cleaned up, the gear change handle i.e drive or reverse is connected to the gear box via 2 separate cables, no electric motor for reverse. They go in to a moving pinion which turns about 45 degrees each way and selects forward or reverse, the issue is it won't select the gears unless you do it manually with a screw driver on the pinion then as soon as you try to pull off it jumps out of drive. If it is sitting idling and you put it in to reverse the bike stalls

  24. Ok, thanks for your reply but I have found the problem today, a bolt that holds the frame that holds the gear box has sheared off which has been causing the rear of the bike to move around and it has stripped the teeth on the output shaft, new shaft needed, just got to try and find somewhere that sells them now, thanks again mark

    1. Would not think it’s a fuse.First check is there power to starter motor when the ignition is on.Put electric screw driver across the terminals on starter relay if engine don’t turn over. Could be faulty starter motor or ignition switch.
